Last Meeting
Dundee went down to a 3-1 defeat at home to Aberdeen at Dens Park last September. Kevin Holt gave the Dee an early lead after a great move, but James Maddison quickly equalised with a shot from 22 yards. Dons’ substitute Jayden Stockley scored the crucial second after 76 minutes and Kenny McLean completed the scoring with a late, controversial penalty. Mark O’Hara’s sending off for a second booking right at the end completed a frustrating afternoon for the Dee.

Aberdeen’s Season So Far
Aberdeen started their season early on June 30th with a Europa League qualifying tie with Luxembourg side Fola Esch and progressed 3-2 on aggregate after winning 3-1 at Pittodrie but losing 1-0 in the Stade Josey Bathel.
They then met Lithuanians Ventspils in the next round, winning 3-0 at home and 1-0 away but crashed out in the third qualifying round to experienced Slovenians NK Maribor. A late Johnny Hayes goal rescued a 1-1 draw in the first leg at Pittodrie but in the second leg, a missed Adam Rooney penalty at 0-0 would cost them dear as Maribor would win 1-0 but The Dons went home aggrieved at a number of poor refereeing decisions.
Being in Europe made Aberdeen exempt from the League Cup group stages and so they started their domestic campaign with a 0-0 draw at St Johnstone. They followed this with another 0-0 draw at home to Hearts before getting their win league win of the season the following week in a 2-1 win over Partick Thistle.
The clash of last season’s top two at the end of August saw Celtic defeat Aberdeen 4-1 at Parkhead before the international break and they met again in the League Cup Final at Hampden in November where Celtic lifted the first trophy of the season after a one-sided 3-0 victory.
The following week Aberdeen were back in Glasgow where they lost 2-1 to old foes Rangers and the two have been going toe-to-toe for second place ever since. A 1-0 win over Hearts in Tynecastle in the last game before the winter break widened the gap between themselves and fourth and The Dons made good progress in the Scottish Cup last weekend with a 4-0 win over Stranraer at Pittodrie.
In the next round The Dons now face a tricky tie with Ross County who knocked out Dundee United 6-2 in Dingwall but with Celtic so far ahead in the Premiership, they may look to the Scottish Cup as their best chance of glory this season. They will want to record a second successive runner-sup finish and so will be looking for three points against The Dee towards that aim.
