Dundee Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of Mexican defender, Antonio Portales, subject to the successful granting of a visa and international clearance.
Antonio will make the move to Dundee after previously playing for Atlante FC who play in the Liga de Expansión MX in Mexico.
The 6ft, 27 year old, central defender last season played 45 times for Atlante scoring 9 times. As well as Atlante, Portales has also played for Oaxaca, San Luis and Monterrey, with all clubs playing in Mexico.
Speaking on the signing of Portales, Manager Tony Docherty said, “The club were made aware of Antonio and our recruitment team watched him extensively. We then all agreed that he would make a great addition to our playing squad.
“He is someone who enjoys defending, he is a bit old-school in terms that he enjoys defending. He is effective in both boxes and has real ability to play out from the back. He displays real passion and desire in his performances and I think this is something that will really relate to the Dundee fans.”
On signing for the club Antonio simply said, “Vamos Dundee!”

Dundee Football Club se complace en anunciar el fichaje del defensor mexicano Antonio Portales, sujeto a la concesión exitosa de una visa y autorización internacional.
Antonio se mudará a Dundee después de haber jugado anteriormente para el Atlante FC, que juega en la Liga de Expansión MX en México.
El defensa central de 27 años y 6 pies jugó la temporada pasada 45 veces para Atlante anotando 9 veces. Además del Atlante, Portales también ha jugado en Oaxaca, San Luis y Monterrey, todos con clubes jugando en México.
Hablando sobre la firma de Portales, el gerente Tony Docherty dijo: “El club estaba al tanto de Antonio y nuestro equipo de reclutamiento lo observó detenidamente. Entonces todos estuvimos de acuerdo en que sería una gran incorporación a nuestro equipo de jugadores.
“Es alguien que disfruta defendiendo, es un poco anticuado en cuanto a que disfruta defendiendo. Es efectivo en ambas áreas y tiene una habilidad real para jugar desde atrás. Muestra verdadera pasión y deseo en sus actuaciones y creo que esto es algo que realmente se relacionará con los fans de Dundee”.
Al fichar por el club, Antonio simplemente dijo: “¡Vamos Dundee!”
