Last Meeting

Having travelled to London the previous Easter to play a series of friendly games, including a game against Corinithians at the Queens Club in West Kensington where a new world record crowd of 60,000 was set, Dundee went south again over Easter 1987 and faced a Nottingham Forest side at Crystal Palace.

On Wednesday 21st  April Dundee faced Forest at the Crystal Palace Grounds in London and when The Dee emerged from the changing room, the crowd were heard to shout “Play Up Marmalade!” in reference to the first brand of commercial marmalade that originated from Dundee.

The pitch at the Crystal Palace Grounds was of large dimensions but was a little soft which meant the ball became heavier as the game wore on. Dundee created plenty of chances, especially for Willocks and Devlin but they couldn’t make the break through and against the run of play Forest scored twice. Right on full time Thomson fed the ball to Jim Smith who ran in on goal to score a consolation and with Forest winning 2-1 they were given prize of £11
