“Too good an opportunity to turn down”

Neil McCann met the press on Friday after being appointed manager of the club.

The new boss signed a 3 year deal with the club on Thursday having finished the season as interim manager and keeping the club in the Ladbrokes Premiership.

Neil gave an insight of what had happened between the end of his interim spell and being appointed as manager, β€œAfter the spell as interim manager, I always had the view that I was going back to Sky as I was contracted there.”

β€œI’ve had a serious think about the opportunity over the past couple of days and I had conversations with my bosses at Sky, conversations with John and I had a long hard think about what I wanted to do.”

β€œThe dialogue continued with the club throughout but the club had to do their due diligence, they had to do their interview process but I was always there. I came to the conclusive that it was just too good an opportunity to turn down.”

The club received over 160 applications for the role but having impressed during in his spell as interim boss, Neil was always the first choice, Neil continued, β€œI am very honoured to be given the nod and to be told I was number one choice. It’s going to be very difficult but I knew the size of the task when I took over in those five games and if those players could pull themselves out of the position they were in, then it showed there is a strength here.”

β€œI know the areas of the team I want to strengthen but it’s not just about numbers I want to get quality in.”
