Jonathan Afolabi missed the chance to make his Dundee debut in the Betfred Cup trip to Brora Rangers as he was on international duty with Ireland under 21s but did make his bow as a half time substitute at Tynecastle last Friday.
The on loan Celtic man joined the club on the morning of the 29th September and later that night hit the net in a pre-season win over Peterhead but was soon off on international duty and missed the two week run up to the league opener.
“If I start I want to take the chance with both hands.”
He spoke to the broadcast media ahead of Saturday’s match with Greenock Morton and when asked how his first month at Dens has been, he said, “It’s been good so far. We got off to a bit of a slow start but I’m sure if we play to our best we can turn things around.”
“It was a tough game to start off with, probably the toughest one we will come up against on paper. We had a slow start to the game conceding so early but after half time it was a little bit of an improvement but it still didn’t change the fact we lost the game so the main thing is to get our heads down and work hard for the game at the weekend.”
“The aim is always to work hard. If I don’t start the game I’ll always give 100% for the team. It was a bit of a shame in the situation I came on but the main task was just to run as much as I can and work for the team. For this week I’ve just worked hard in training and see what happens at the weekend. If I start I want to take the chance with both hands.”
When asked what he will bring to the team, Jonathan said, “My first aim will be to get as many goals as possible, that’s my main job as a striker. Other than that I like to not give defenders a moment’s peace. I like chasing things down and being a target man for the team, being an out ball, so you’ll see me moving about up there.”
