Motherwell Preview

Dundee welcome Motherwell to Dens Park this weekend as they take on The Steelmen on Saturday, kick off 3pm.

Manager Paul Hartley confirmed that he will be without defender James McPake this weekend after he picked up an injury during last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Ross County. The manager confirmed, “McPake will be a couple of weeks, he’s cracked a rib so probably out for 3-4 weeks. McBride and Letheren are still out and Ferry has just started back training.”

McPake’s absence could open the door for a first involvement for Kostadin Gadzhalov. The Bulgarian defender signed last weekend after a trial period and has been involved in a few closed door matches over the past few weeks. Paul said, “He played in a game the other day and looks really composed, strong, a good footballer, so he is in our thoughts for Saturday. He’s been with us for the last two or three weeks training. He’s looked the part, played in a couple of bounce games.

Touching on the subject of more players coming in, the manager said, “It will depend on one or two leaving.” When asked if there has been any interest shown in his players since the transfer window opened last week, Paul responded, “One or two but not Wighton.”

After a winless run in the league, Dundee face Motherwell who have had some similar issues recently, despite a couple of wins after new boss Ian Baraclough was appointed they come into the match after back to back defeats, Paul said of the match, “I think you look to try pick up points in every game, the home games are really important and we will put a team out on the park on Saturday, remain positive, have the same attitude as there is nothing wrong with the attitude and work ethic. We’ve just got find a winning way.”

“I think the supporters have been fair, they’ve been great. They want to see a winning team on the park so we have to make sure we go out there and do our best and give them something to shout about.”

A number of injuries and suspension have hit the squad over the festive period but the manager was keen to stress there will be no excuses, “We have to get through this, we won’t have any excuses about injuries and this, that or the other, we have to put the best possible team out on the park and get the best possible result. “

“We remain upbeat, theres no doubt about that. We are sitting 8th and I think you sit down at the start of the season and you have a whole load of changes, a big turn around in players, and then you look at the position we are in, 8th, eleven points from the teams below us in terms of the bottom teams, so we remain positive, keep working hard and try to climb the league.”
