Match Report: Queen of the South Reserves 0-0 Dundee Reserves

Dundee Reserves and Queen of the South Reserves played out a 0-0 draw at Palmerston Park, in the Reserves League. Dundee will leave feeling frustrated, as they largely dominated the match, but they could not break the deadlock.

Dundee began the match with some promising moments, particularly in the early stages when Baird won the ball and fired a powerful shot straight at the keeper in the 7th minute. Just over 10 minutes later, Richardson had another opportunity, but his shot from the edge of the box sailed over the bar.

As the first half progressed, Dundee continued to push forward. Scott’s pinpoint cross found Baird in the box in the 23rd minute, but Baird was unable to connect cleanly. Shortly after, Hunter tested the QOS goalkeeper with a well-struck effort, but it was saved. Corrigan also had a chance just before halftime but failed to keep his shot down.

The second half saw substitutions for Dundee, first with Hunter and Scott being replaced by Mitchell and Lieper, and Rayan Mohammed and Ruaridh Lynch were replaced by Sonny Paterson and Lewis McKelvie later on.  A big moment came in the 63rd minute when Josh Mitchell hit the crossbar after being set up by Jamie Richardson. Just minutes later, Sonny Paterson had an opportunity after a Sweenie-Rowe cross, but his shot skittered wide of the post.

Despite some late pressure, including a close-range header from Mohammed, Dundee couldn’t find the breakthrough. QOS almost snatched it at the death, with their free-kick hitting the post of the Dundee goal.  Positives can be taken from the way Dundee dominated the match, but disappointment at not being able to convert the needed chances will be the overriding feeling.
