Manager Jim McIntyre saw his side taste defeat at Fir Park this afternoon thanks to a wonder strike from Motherwell youngster David Turnbull in the second half, the manager told us, “That’s far more like how I want us to play. I thought we were on the front foot quite a lot. I thought it was quite an even game to be honest. You have to defend well when you come here cause they test you, a lot of balls forward, a lot of crosses coming in and in the main I think we did that.”
It was goalless at the break after a very even first 45 minutes and it was midway through the second when Turnbull fired home from distance, “The goal itself is a sore one to take because we’ve got good possession in the wide area and we make a poor decision. Motherwell take the throw quickly and we’ve got bodies caught forward and they punish us, but we’ve got to try and get a man out to close the shot down. Having said that you’ve got to say it’s a sensational strike but we still have two v one and could have tried to affect that but I’m being slightly harsh there.”
The manager was disappointed for the players given the effort put in but did admit the final ball needs to improve, saying, “The players put so much effort in and deserved a point there. We need to lick our wounds and get ready to go again. Far more positives and I was please with how we switched the play. Our final ball needs to be better. We need to be a bit better up top, in terms of holding it and our final bit.”
“That’s the way I want to play, I want to make sure we are getting the ball into wider areas and we are getting at least four bodies into the box, and we’re putting teams under pressure. We just need that wee bit of quality, and the one bit we did have Darren is very unlucky and how it has not gone in, I don’t know.”
Next up is a return to the Kilmac Stadium at Dens Park next weekend as we take on 11th place St. Mirren with a chance to move of the bottom of the table, the manager said of the match “It’s a big game next week, we know that and it’s important we go and get the right result.”
