Dundee made it four undefeated with a 1-1 draw at Tannadice on Friday night but manager James McPake was disappointed not to head back up the road with more after an impressive display from his side.
The manager spoke to DeeTV following the match, he said, “I think on the basis of the second half we deserved to win. I thought we also edged the first half although we went in a goal down. We had a great chance, it was a great save from the goalkeeper from Paul McGowan.”
“In the second half there was only one team creating chances to win a game and dictating a game. To come down here and come away with a point after that second half performance is disappointing.”
Asked about the fantastic reaction from the Dundee support throughout the match, the manager said, “They deserved that. We’ve not been good enough, and I’m not just talking about the derbies and I’m not trying to buy any praise or looking for sympathy of any sort. We’ve not been good enough in certain games this season and they deserved a performance. We need a consistency in our performances and I think it was there tonight, carrying on from Partick Thistle. It needs to be like that for a long period of time.”
Finlay Robertson started in his first Derby appearance and the manager for full of praise for the young midfield, “He is now showing a consistency that gives you a trust, gives you a reason to want to play him in every game. When I got the job for the last day of the season I didn’t give him a game to get any plaudits, I played him cause I had worked with him for two years and I knew he was good enough to play.”
“Coming down tonight, you don’t put a 17 year old in with 19 appearances if you don’t think he is good enough to handle the atmosphere. It didn’t phase him, he is mature beyond his years. He has real experience in beside him with Paul McGowan and Graham Dorrans. Also Sean Mackie, who I though was excellent tonight. I could go through the whole team and mention them individually.”
