James McPake spoke to DeeTV following the derby defeat at Tannadice on Friday night.
The manager said of the defeat, “As a team we couldn’t defend, that was the biggest problem on the night. It’s something that we’ve been pretty good at.”
“I can’t my head around how we can defend so well against probably the biggest threat in the league in Inverness but tonight we completely blew up in terms of defending our own box.”
“It’s something you work on all week and it should be more important in a derby because sometimes you can win and lose a derby on defending your own box from set plays and tonight we couldn’t do it which is surprising and disappointing.”
“I think over the course of the game there wasn’t much in it but they defended much better than us when they needed to. There were even ones late on which wouldn’t have meant anything at 5-1 or 5-2, I hate doing this but you are now questioning desire of players to go and get their head on the end of it.”
“As a team when you can’t defend a box it’s really problematic. It doesn’t matter how you play in a game if you can’t get the basics right you are going to be in trouble.”
