Lee wins De Vries and Player’s Player awards

Lee Ashcroft has won the Andrew De Vries Player of the Year award and the Player’s Player of the Year for the 2020/21 season.

The De Vries trophy is voted for by the Dundee FC Supporters Association supporters clubs and is the club’s official Player of the Year award.

Lee picked up an incredible 16 individual awards from the clubs to win the overall trophy.

His teammates also selected him as the stand out performer of the season as he became the third player to win both awards in the same season since the Player’s Player was introduced five seasons ago.

Lee joined in the summer of last season and has turned out 29 times for the club so far this campaign.

His performances in defence have impressed and since the turn of the year he has also added a goalscoring touch with six goals helping the team to victories over Bonnyrigg Rose, Alloa and Dunfermline while also rescuing points late on against Greenock Morton and Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Lee spoke to DeeTV after winning the awards and said, “I’m absolutely delighted. Obviously it’s been a tough year, it’s been different, but to get the two awards is good.”

“I’ve played here in the past and know there is a good following at the club, I’ve seen things online as well. I’m absolutely chuffed that the fans have voted for me. It’s been a tough year, we had a tough start to the season, myself personally as well, so to come through that shaky spell and be on a good run of form just now at the right time hopefully going into the play-offs.”
