Kilmarnock’s Season So Far
Kilmarnock’s season started with a disastrous Betfred Cup defeat to League One Ayr United 1-0 at Somerset Park but recovered to beat Dumbarton, Annan and Clyde to finish second in their group and qualifying for the knock out stage as one of the best runners-up.
Losing to local rivals Ayr cost Killie a seeding for the second round draw and as a consequence ended up being paired with Celtic away from home and lost 5-0 at Celtic Park.
In the Premiership Killie’s league campaign started with four home games but lost back to back games against St Johnstone, Hearts and Celtic before picking up a point against Hamilton after throwing away a two goal lead.
After losing away at Motherwell after the international break, Killie picked up their second point of the campaign with an encouraging draw against Aberdeen at Pittodrie and earned another point in Dundee’s visit in September.
However a 2-0 home defeat to Ross County saw manager Lee McCulloch relieved of his duties and replaced by former West Brom manager Steve Clarke.
This saw an immediate upturn in fortunes for Killie and with the new manager in the stand at Firhill, they won their first win against Partick Thistle. This was followed up by superb 1-1 draws away at both sides of the Old Firm in Clarke’s first game in charge which were enough to lift Killie off the bottom of the table.
However Clarke’s first home game was a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Hibernian but they bounced back against Hibs’ Edinburgh when they won 2-1 against Hearts in their last game before the international break at Murrayfield.
