Dundee Football Club are delighted to announce that Joe Shaughnessy has committed to joining the club when his contract with St Mirren ends next week.
The Irish Defender has a wealth of experience in Scottish football and had a number of offers on the table, so we are delighted he has chosen to come to Dundee FC.
Joe will become manager Tony Docherty’s first signing and the pair previously worked together at Aberdeen.
Shaughnessy moved from Ireland to sign for Aberdeen when he was 16 years old, where he spent six years, which included loan spells with Forfar and Falkirk. He then spent four years with St Johnstone before moving down South to Southend United. Joe returned to Scotland signing for St Mirren in 2020.
Joe has played over 250 matches in Scottish Football and on agreeing to sign for the club he said, “I am really excited to get started at Dundee and work with the manager again. I’ve had positive chats with him over the last few days and I canβt wait to get in for the first day of pre-season and get started.”
On his first signing manager Tony Docherty said, “I worked with Joe as a young player at Aberdeen and he is the type of person I want at this football club. I know what I’m getting with Joe. He has a great work ethic and attitude. He has great experience of the league having captained both St Mirren and St Johnstone. There was a lot of competition from other clubs to get him, so I’m delighted he has chosen to sign for us.”
Welcome to the Dee Joe!
