“It’s good to be back”

Kane Hemmings re-joined Dundee this morning on a three year deal and spoke to the press after training with his new teammates for the first time.

He told the press, “It’s good to be back. It was a bit of a long day yesterday but I’m up here now and I’m happy everything is sorted. Delighted to be back.”

There was interest from other clubs including teams in the Ladbrokes Premiership and asked why he felt a return to Dundee suited him best, he said, “I know the manager and Jimmy well. I thought they have a chance here to really do something, get promoted, that was a big draw for me.”

“It was nothing against the others club, I’m familiar with people here, I had a good time here before and it just felt a bit more comfortable.”

“Everyone wants to play at the highest level, I had the chance to go there but I think if I can do that with promotion with Dundee it would feel a lot better.”

Kane was prolific during his last spell with the club, scoring 28 times in 44 matches and is keen to hit the ground running this time around, “I always put the pressure on myself to score goals. Strikers are judged on how many goals they score and I’ll always put that pressure on myself. If I’m playing well and scoring goals then hopefully the team will be successful.”

Last time he was at Dens, James McPake was in the dressing room as a team mate so Kane knows the manager well and also played under the management of assistant Jimmy Nicholl at Cowdenbeath, “I spoke to Jaz and know him well, he had a lot of respect in the dressing room when I was here before. Working with Jimmy as well, I know what he is all about. He puts a smile on your face when you walk through the door in the morning, so it was an easy decision.”

Kane will go straight into the squad for Saturday’s match against Ayr United at the Kilmac Stadium at Dens Park, he has come through a full pre-season and played for Notts County on Tuesday night, “I played 90 minutes on Tuesday and trained the full session this morning so will be good to get going and hopefully that will be on Saturday.”
