Jonathan Afolabi got off to the perfect start in last night’s pre-season friendly against Peterhead, scoring his first Dundee goal just hours after signing on loan from Celtic.
The striker was given permission to train on Monday with his new teammates but the deal was not concluded until early Tuesday afternoon. It was through in plenty of time for him to be registered to turn out for Dundee against Peterhead.
Jonathan spoke to DeeTV after scoring his first goal in the 4-0 win, he said, “Very good to get it over the line finally and to get some first team action this season so I’m looking forward to it.”
“There are obviously very high standards here so we have to keep it up.”
“There was a bit of delay but I’m delighted to get it over the line now.”
“It was nice to get the goal, delighted with myself and delighted with the team and the way we played. There are obviously very high standards here so we have to keep it up.”
“It’s been good, I’ve only trained once but it was a decent standard, there are some quality lads here.”
“There are a lot of fixtures coming up so I think we will be ready for every single one.”
He returned for training following the lockdown period with his parent club and asked how that return to action was, he said, “It was tough coming back, we had to be distance from each other and there was only limited numbers training so we did a lot of fitness work and put in the hard yards to get the rewards and I guess it’s paying off now.”
