Manager Neil McCann was understandably delighted with the 2-0 win over Hamilton Academical at the Hope CBD Stadium and said “You know I really enjoyed that; really enjoyed that! People have maybe said that there is no togetherness in the dressing room but the celebrations at the end proved that isn’t the case and how tight this group are. I’m really pleased for the players as they really deserved that for the hard work they’ve been putting in.”
Focussing on the game Neil thought the Dark Blues deserved the win and said. “We absolutely dominated the first half. We probably weren’t as a big a threat as I would have liked but I thought overall our ball retention was excellent.”
“They tried to sit in bit but we pushed and we probed and got a great header from Boyley to give us lead. We knew they’d change it in the second half and become more direct but we weathered it, stood up to the physical battle and we were well worth the win.”
“People have been asking ‘Can we score? Can we keep a clean sheet?’ and we did both today and I’m so delighted for the whole team.”
While acknowledging it was a good team performance from back to front Neil was delighted with the performance of Lewis Spence who came into the team for the injured Paul McGowan. “I thought Spencey was brilliant”, said the manager. “He goes in there and really compliments Glen Kamara at times.”
“This is the type of pitch, type of ground and type of opposition that requires that little bit of grit and determination and Lewis brings that. I thought his performance was one of a real high standard but he was one of a team of stars today.”
“That needed a team performance. We needed guys to make saves; we needed guys to make clearances; we needed boys to make chances and take them and today we did it and it was a total team performance.”
Neil also praised the Dundee support who travelled to Lanarkshire. “I’d like to thank the fans who have come down to Hamilton today because it as not been easy in the last number of weeks and I appreciate their support. I know it’s been tough at times but I’m glad we sent them home happy and I hope we can do that again in the games going forward.”
