Danny Johnson signed for the club on a two year deal this morning after joining the club from Motherwell, he met the press shortly after and told the broadcast media, “The challenge is to get the club back in the Premiership and that sold itself to me, that’s why I’m here.”
“When I played at Motherwell, I scored. If you look at my record at the start of the season I was 1 in 2, I back myself to play and unfortunately the second half of the season didn’t go to plan. There was a change of formation and I didn’t really get a look in. I want to be playing football and that’s why I’m here.”
The striker was asked what he will bring to the team and he didn’t have to think long for his response, “I’m going to back myself and say goals. I say it everywhere I go and I’ve done it everywhere I’ve gone. If I’m playing I’m going to score goals, I’ve no doubts about that.”
“This is exactly what I needed at this time in my career, everywhere I’ve gone I’ve had to prove myself to managers and when I went to Motherwell the manager believed in me and gave me that chance I took that chance but things didn’t work out but that’s football. I’ve come here and the manager has put faith in me to score goals and I’m going to repay that.”
Manager James McPake was delighted to get his man, he said, “We know what he brings, we saw enough of him last season at Motherwell.”
“Every conversation I’ve had about him has been positive, everything we have seen has been positive and what he brings is goals. He is one the fans are really going to like.”
There was competition from down south and from teams in the Scottish top flight for Danny’s signature and James said, “It’s tougher when we are coming in and going against those clubs, we’ve had it with a couple and it’s good for us that we are getting quality players in.”
“It’s one I was happy that was kept quiet as I knew as soon as the interest got out there might ave been another couple of clubs so I’m delighted to get him in the building.”
“He’s come through a full pre-season, played a few games and scored a few goals so he’s fit and ready to go and we’ll assess that over the next few days.”
