Fast facts – Hamilton Accies

  • Dundee and Hamilton were promoted to the Premiership together in 2014 when Dundee won the SPFL Championship and Hamilton defeated first Falkirk and then Hibernian in the play offs
  • The first match between the clubs took place at Dens in Hamilton’s first season in the top flight on November 30th 1907. In front of 8000, Dundee won 3-1 thanks to goals from Sandy McFarlane (2) and Tommy McDermott
  • The year after winning the Scottish Cup Dundee met Hamilton in the 1911 semi-final and in the days before neutral venues, The Accies won 3-2 at Douglas Park before losing 2-0 to Celtic in the final after a replay
  • Dundee got revenge in the 1925 Scottish Cup semi-final when they defeated Hamilton 2-0 at Easter Road in a replay after a 1-1 draw at Dens.
  • Hamilton Academical were established in 1874 from the school football team at Hamilton Academy and remain the only professional club in British football to have originated from a school team.
  • Dundee defeated Hamilton 7-3 at Dens in the last game of the 1986/87 season to reach 100 goals for the campaign. The goals came from Brown, Wright (3), Shannon, Coyne (pen), Harvey
  • Hamilton have won the Lanarkshire Cup on ten occasions
  • Dundee and Hamilton have both won the Challenge Cup twice, winning the first three between them. Dundee won the Centenary Cup in 1990/91 and Accies then won the B&Q Cup in 1991/92 and 1992/93
  • Iain Munro and John Blackley have managed both clubs. Munro took over at Hamilton after leaving Dens in 1992 while Blackley was Accies manager from 1981-83 and had a four game caretaker spell in 1991 before Munro took over.
  • 100 years ago Dundee met Hamilton twice in the 1916/17 season in the Scottish League Division One. The first was a 3-1 win at Dens while the second was a 4-2 win at Douglas Park.
  • Both Dundee and Hamilton have nine different nationalities in their current squads
  • Hamilton moved into their current stadium in 2001 after their original ground Douglas Park was sold to Sainsburys in 1994 and was named the SuperSeal Stadium in July 2016
