20s lose out to Accies

Dundee fell to a 4-0 defeat to Hamilton Accies in the SPFL Development League at the Superseal stadium on Tuesday evening.

Jimmy Boyle lined up with a young team with Jesse Curran the only member of the squad to have any first team experience.

Accies started the brighter and had the first opportunity when Dundee keeper Ferrie made a smart saved from Boyd’s shot and Tierney hit the rebound wide.

Dundee’s first chance came through young striker Matthew Henvey. Ian Smith had made space for himself down the left and picked the striker out with his cross but the header didn’t trouble the Accies’ number one and flew over the bar.

Shortly after Accies were infront when Hughes turned home a cut back from Tierney.

Almost immediately Dundee had the chance to hit back. Mark Smith broke away and after seeing his shot saved the rebound fell to Clark but his effort clipped the bar on the way over.

From then the home side took control, they added a second when Cunningham drove into the box and after playing a neat one two slotted under Ferrie.

Dundee lost Jesse Curran through injury during the first half and at the break Sam Dryden was also forced off.

The start to the second period could have gone worse for Dundee. Straight away Accies won a free kick on the right and McGregor headed home to make it 3-0.

From the restart, Dundee lost possession and a simple ball through and cut back saw a second goal lost in the opening minute of the half, Cunningham again hitting the net.

There was little action after that as Hamilton comfortably saw the game out with a four goal advantage.

Dundee line up – Ferrie, Dryden (Gibb), Clark, Smyth, Waddell, Allan, Curran (Berry), Trialist, Henvey (Coupe), M. Smith, I. Smith.

Unused sub – Gourlay
