Fast Facts – Arbroath

  • Dundee’s first visit to Gayfield was the first league match between the clubs when The Dark Blues beat newly promoted Arbroath 1-0 in November 1935
  • Dundee’s last visit to Gayfield was during the winter break in January when goals from Haber and Wighton gave The Dee a 2-0 win
  • The last competitive match between the sides was a Ramsdens Cup 1st round tie at Gayfield in July 2011 which Dundee won 2-1 after extra-time thanks to goals from Steven Milne and Stephen O’Donnell
  • On the same day Arbroath recorded a world record 36-0 win over Bon Accord, in the same round of the Scottish Cup, Dundee Harp defeated Aberdeen Rovers 35-0
  • 18-year-old John Petrie scored 13 goals against Bon Accord, still the world record for most goals scored in a senior tournament
  • In the following rounds of the Scottish Cup, Arbroath beat local rivals Forfar Athletic 9–1 in the 2nd round, Dundee East End 7–1 in the 3rd round before losing 5–3 to Hibernian in the fourth round, scoring a total of 55 goals in that season’s competition
  • Arbroath won last season’s SPFL League Two championship after an exciting ‘Helicopter Saturday’ in which Forfar were also going for the title
  • Former Dees Tommy Gray, John Prentice, Bert Henderson, Jimmy Bone, Jocky Scott, George Mackie and John McGlashan have all managed The Red Litchies
  • Arbroath have won the Forfarshire Cup on 20 occasions, beating Dundee in the final five times
  • Arbroath’s Gayfield Park, which opened in 1925, is the closest ground in Europe to the sea
