Match Report: Dundee Reserves 1-0 Kilmarnock Reserves
Dundee’s reserve side secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Kilmarnock at Greenversity Stadium at Gayfield Park, in a tightly contested match. Sonny Paterson’s second-half goal proved to be the decisive moment in a game that initially saw few clear-cut chances for either team.
The first half was a cagey affair, with both sides struggling to create meaningful opportunities in the final third. Kilmarnock had an early freekick in the 1st minute, which was headed over the bar. Dundee gradually grew into the game, controlling possession through patient build-up play, but they lacked a clinical edge. A couple of half-chances fell to Dundee, including a shot from Davies-Browne in the 33rd minute that went wide of the mark. Both teams exchanged yellow cards, with Kilmarnock’s Burke and Dundee’s Clark being booked for fouls. The teams went into halftime deadlocked at 0-0.
Dundee came out with more intent in the second half, and it didn’t take long for them to break the deadlock. Just four minutes after the restart, in the 49th minute, a ball played through to Sonny Paterson saw him outmaneuver Kilmarnock’s goalkeeper to bundle the ball into the net, giving Dundee a 1-0 lead.
Kilmarnock pressed for an equalizer, but Dundee’s defense stood firm. A notable chance came in the 58th minute when a long-range effort from Kilmarnock sailed wide of the goal. Dundee goalkeeper Lynch made a crucial save in the 83rd minute, denying a Killie breakaway and preserving his team’s lead. Rayan Mohammed had a chance to double Dundee’s advantage in the 87th minute, but his effort from a tight angle was well saved by the Kilmarnock keeper.
In the end, Paterson’s goal was enough to seal the win for Dundee, as they held on for a hard-fought 1-0 victory.
