Dundee Football Club are thrilled to announce the signing of Mexican striker Diego Pineda, subject to International Clearance.
Pineda becomes the club’s second Mexican signing this summer following countryman Antonio Portales to Dundee.
The 28-year-old makes the move to Dundee after playing for Correcaminos UAT in the Liga de Expansión MX in Mexico, the same league that Portales was most recently playing in.
Pineda has played six times for Mexico Under 20’s and also previously played for Atlético Morelia, Atlético San Luis, Venados F.C. and Club América, with all clubs playing in Mexico.
Speaking on Diego Pineda joining Dundee, manager Tony Docherty said, “I am extremely pleased to have this deal agreed. It came about after securing the signing of Antonio Portales. We spoke to Antonio to find out who the best strikers in his league were and who he didn’t like playing against and Diego’s name was a really prominent figure.
“Our recruitment team then did a lot of work looking into Diego and what he had to offer and everything we saw of him greatly impressed us. He is a proper number nine, his movement is great and he scores all types of goals. He is a grafter, he works centre-halves, he gets into real goal-scoring positions, he scores from crosses and gets on the end of things.
“I think it will excite the fans and Diego will bring something different to the Scottish Premiership. We are really looking forward to getting him over and working with him. It is a brilliant acquisition for the club and something I am really excited about.”

Dundee Football Club se complace en anunciar el fichaje del delantero mexicano Diego Pineda, sujeto a autorización internacional.
Pineda se convierte en el segundo fichaje mexicano del club este verano después de su compatriota Antonio Portales a Dundee.
El jugador de 28 años se muda a Dundee después de jugar para Correcaminos UAT en la Liga de Expansión MX en México, la misma liga en la que Portales jugó recientemente.
Pineda ha jugado seis veces para México Sub 20 y también jugó anteriormente para Atlético Morelia, Atlético San Luis, Venados F.C. y Club América, con todos los clubes jugando en México.
Hablando sobre la incorporación de Diego Pineda a Dundee, el manager Tony Docherty dijo: “Estoy extremadamente complacido de haber llegado a este acuerdo. Surgió tras conseguir el fichaje de Antonio Portales. Hablamos con Antonio para saber quiénes eran los mejores delanteros de su liga y contra quién no le gustaba jugar y el nombre de Diego era una figura muy destacada.
“Nuestro equipo de reclutamiento entonces hizo mucho trabajo investigando a Diego y lo que tenía para ofrecer y todo lo que vimos de él nos impresionó mucho. Es un verdadero nueve, su movimiento es muy bueno y marca todo tipo de goles. Es un mafioso, trabaja de central, se mete en posiciones de gol reales, marca de centro y se pone al final de las cosas.
“Creo que entusiasmará a los fanáticos y Diego traerá algo diferente a la Premiership escocesa. Tenemos muchas ganas de conseguirlo y trabajar con él. Es una adquisición brillante para el club y algo por lo que estoy realmente entusiasmado”.
