Defeat in opening Reserve Cup match

Dundee were beaten 3-1 this afternoon by Motherwell in the opening game of the Reserve Cup group section.

The Steelmen took the lead in the first half when Neil McLaughlin slotted home with a composed finish from inside the area.

Motherwell has previously hit the bar in the half and took a deserved lead into the break.

Dundee started the stronger in the second half and levelled when Matty Henvey was on hand to turn in after a Nathan Meres cross was spilled.

It was an even contest for a period with Henvey having another chance but being denied by Ferguson in the Motherwell goal.

Motherwell then took the lead when substitute Jamie Semple turned home at the back post minutes after coming on.

The hosts added a third in the final minute when a penalty was awarded and Conor Sammon slotted home.

Starting line up – Jackson, Rodger, Rice, Bradbury, Jefferies, Moore, Anderson, Lambert, Henvey, Scott, Meres.

Subs – Sharp, Cunningham, J. Smith, E. Smith, Johnston
