Defeat for Reserves in capital

Dundee fell to a second heavy defeat in a row in the Reserve League this afternoon with defeat away Hibernian.

It was a much changed line up from the team which was beaten in last week’s match against Dundee United with seven changes. A much young team, which included three 16 year olds, took to the park in Edinburgh against a Hibs side which included plenty of experience.

Two early goals gave the hosts the perfect start with Fraser Murray heading home a Miquel Nelom cross after three minutes and five minutes last Olly Shaw heading home from a corner via a deflection.

There was little between the sides as Dundee settled into the match but Hibs added a third after 25 minutes with a carbon copy of the first. This time Sean Mackie was the provider but the end result was the same as Murray headed home.

Dundee’s best chance of the match came from a Hibs head after 35 minutes. Brian Rice’s cross was aimed for Cedwyn Scott but Nelom got their first and had goalkeeper Maciej Dabrowski to thank to deny an own goal.

Hibs made it 4-0 just before the break when the referee pointed to the spot after a corner, it was unclear what the penalty was awarded for but the reaction of the Dundee players suggested it was soft.

Murray made no mistake from 12 yard and smashed home for his hat trick.

There was more goalmouth action for both sides in the second half but it was the home side who found the net first in the half when a really good team move ended with Hibs substitute Jamie Gullan firing high into the net.

Gullan was on target again soon after when being played in behind and made no mistake slotting under Jackson.

Sub John Smith found himself in behind the home defence and after his shot was turned into the side netting Dundee did manage to pull one back. The resulting corner was headed out but when it came back into the area Sam Fisher headed home.

Smith then hit the post before Hibs finished the match by adding another two goal late on.

Olly Shaw beat the outrushing Jackson to a long ball forward and slotted into the empty net from a tight angle before Gullan completed his hat trick with a strike from the edge of the box.

Dundee team – Jackson, E. Smith, Rice (Meres), Mulligan, Fisher, Robertson (J. Smith), Anderson (Rodger), Moore, Scott (Cunningham), Cameron, Lambert.

Subs – Sharp, Fleming, Hornyik
