Liam Fontaine and Cammy Kerr will take charge of the ‘B’ side as they enter the SPFL Trust Trophy with a tie against Peterhead on Wednesday evening, kick off 7.45pm
They took the squad who will play for two sessions this week in the build up to the match and Liam told us following today’s training, “It’s been good, it’s been good to get on the pitch with the team that we are going with.”
“It’s obviously good to get some ideas across about how we are going to approach the game. We have a few senior players with us which is going to help the younger ones.”
“It’s a good challenge for the younger boys, testing themselves against a senior team.”
Liam has experience in coaching from his time with Ross County and has also taken charge of bounce games in his time at Dens, he is thankful to gain more valuable experience in taking charge of the ‘B’ side, he continued, “Great to get back on the pitch and do that coaching side of it. It’s been part of my career for two or three years, I’ve just recently finished the ‘A’ licence so for me to get back out and involved in that is great.”
“I’m grateful for the opportunity and I just hope that we can progress in the cup. It’s a cup game at the end of the day and we want to progress to the next round.”
It will be a tough tie at Station Park against Peterhead but a test which Liam thinks will benefit the young players, “These are the challenges that younger players need. They’ve got the talent there but do they get exposed to senior football and men. It’s a good opportunity for them to test themselves tomorrow. Peterhead will come down and be a physical side I’d imagine.”
“We’ve prepared well, we know what we are looking to do and hopefully we’ll get to the next round of the cup.”
Entry to the match at Station Park is free of charge.
