Last Meeting

The sides last met competitively in the first round of the Ramsdens Cup in the opening game of the 2011/12 season when Stephen O’Donnell netted an extra-time winner to send The Dee through 2-1.

Arbroath midfielder Gavin Swankie came close to opening his account for the season after six minutes but his close-range strike cannoned off the crossbar.

The home side were indebted to their goalkeeper Darren Hill, who showed brilliant agility to keep out shots by Steven Milne and Jamie McCluskey in quick succession.

Hill’s heroics continued after the break as he pulled off a fingertip save to deny McCluskey once again.

Arbroath opened the scoring against the run of play after 77 minutes when Steven Doris crossed for Jordan Elfverson to meet with a decisive header.

However, the lead was short-lived as Milne headed an equaliser moments later to finally breach Hill’s resistance.

O’Donnell grabbed the decisive goal for Dundee two minutes into extra-time by meeting Ryan Conroy’s corner with a well-placed header.

Arbroath Season So Far

Like Dundee, Arbroath have so far played one pre season friendly when they faced Aberdeen at Gayfield on Thursday.

In front of a bumper crowd of 2061, Arbroath lost out 3-1 to a full strength Aberdeen side when there were Arbroath debuts for Danny Denholm, ex-Dee Gavin Swankie, Thomas O’Brien and Blair Yule.

The Dons scored twice in the first half thanks to Adam Rooney and former Dee Greg Stewart on his Aberdeen debut, but Arbroath came into the match in the second half and substitute Kane Hester coming close twice for the Lichties.  Aberdeen substitute Jayden Stockley headed in a third goal after both sides made numerous substitutes before Kane Hester did get his well deserved goal with four minutes to go.
