Last Meeting

The sides last met in the first round of the Ramsdens Cup in the opening game of the 2011/12 season when Stephen O’Donnell netted an extra-time winner to send The Dee through 2-1.

Arbroath midfielder Gavin Swankie came close to opening his account for the season after six minutes but his close-range strike cannoned off the crossbar.

The home side were indebted to their goalkeeper Darren Hill, who showed brilliant agility to keep out shots by Steven Milne and Jamie McCluskey in quick succession.

Hill’s heroics continued after the break as he pulled off a fingertip save to deny McCluskey once again.

Arbroath opened the scoring against the run of play after 77 minutes when Steven Doris crossed for Jordan Elfverson to meet with a decisive header.

However, the lead was short-lived as Milne headed an equaliser moments later to finally breach Hill’s resistance.

O’Donnell grabbed the decisive goal for Dundee two minutes into extra-time by meeting Ryan Conroy’s corner with a well-placed header.

Arbroath’s Season So Far

Arbroath’s season started with a 2-1 home win over Elgin City in the Betfred Cup and followed that up with an impressive 6-1 win at Stirling Albion. The Smokies travelled to Easter Road next where they lost 3-2 and a 3-2 loss to fellow Championship side Alloa in the final group game saw them exit the competition.

On their League One winners Flag Day, Arbroath opened their Ladbrokes Championship campaign with a 0-0 draw with Queen of the South and continued to put points on the board with wins against Alloa and Dunfermline and a draw with Partick.

In the Challenge Cup Arbroath shocked Dundee United by knocking them out on penalties and nearly took points off them in the league a fortnight later when United needed two late goals to win 2-1.

Last weekend The Litchties went down 3-0 at home to joint league leaders Ayr United.
