“A happy day”

It was an understandably happy Dundee manager Jim McIntyre who spoke to DeeTV after the 2-1 win at the Tony Macaroni Arena yesterday.

“I was delighted for the players’ efforts. I thought we started the game well but then lost a goal to a long throw which was really disappointing as it was something we’d worked on and spoken about but we didn’t feel sorry for ourselves”.

“I thought we moved the ball about really well and in the first half created three really great chances to score but didn’t take any of them. It was frustrating but at half time we told the players just to be patient, keep trying to move the ball, move it quickly from side to side and overload our full backs and I thought we did that well at times and scoring the first goal gave everyone a lift”.

“It was a fantastic header from ‘Nella’ as he’s got to try and stretch and generate it into the corner himself after some fantastic play from Scott Wright who danced down the side and produce a great cross.”

If the manager thought the first goal was fantastic, it was nothing compared to the sensational winner from Scott Wright who reaped the rewards of the hard work he’s put in since joining the club.

“What a fitting way to win it with a brilliant free kick”, said Jim. “It was just an outstanding free kick and he deserves a lot of credit as he is always staying behind, always doing extra and Scott typifies what I want at this club in terms of the type of pro that he is and he is a dream to work with”.

When asked about the Livingston red card, McIntyre had no doubt that the referee made the correct decision. “I thought it was a definite red card as it was high and it was dangerous but afterwards we told the players they need to stay concentrated at the back as Livingston can break very quick and can punish you. We had a wee wobble later on and had Seny to thanks for two good saves late on but it was self inflicted for me but we held firm.”

Looking ahead the manager said, “We showed the character it is going to take and the three points were great on the back on two recent positive performances where we were kicking ourselves at not taking a couple more points.”

“All in all I’m very pleased. There were a lot of good performances, grit and determination so a happy day!”
