The U20s were beaten 3-0 by Cove Rangers in friendly at Links Park. Goals from Paul McManus and a brace from Jonny Smith secured the victory for the Highland League side against a Dundee team that featured James Vincent and three trialists.
Cove went ahead inside five minutes when Paul McManus fired the ball past the trialist in Dundeeā€™s goal. The striker jinked away from Sam Dryden before drilling a shot past the keeper.
12 minutes later, Cove doubled their lead. Midfielder Jonny Smith curled home.
Ian Smith got on the end of Cammy Mooneyā€™s cross after 31 minutes, but he couldnā€™t make enough of a connection on the ball to trouble the Cove keeper.
Dryden then flashed a header wide after 34 minutes, before Cove added a third five minutes before the break.
The two goal scorers combined as Jonny Smith turned McManusā€™ cross into the net from close range.
Dundeeā€™s first chance of the second half came courtesy of a Taylor Berry free kick. The substituteā€™s effort from 20 yards brought a save from the Cove goalkeeper.
Max Anderson sliced a shot wide from the edge of the box after the hour mark. A plethora of substitutions from both sides saw the game lose its urgency. Neither goalkeeper was seriously tested in the closing stages as Cove held on to the win.
