YOUNG DEE RESERVE TEAM BEATEN

Dundee Reserves unbeaten start to the season came to the end as a very young Dark Blues team were beaten by a last minute goal from East Stirling in horrible conditions at Stirling University.

Heavy rain fell throughout the match which saw Dundee line up with a complete squad of under 19s. Cammy Kerr played a centre half while 15 year old Ryan Lamond started in central midfield.

The more experienced East Stirling side started the match on the front foot and would have taken the lead but for a Gary Duggan clearance off the line. As they edged The Dee edged their way back into the match, Thomas Carberry had two chances for Dundee, one a shot just wide of the far post and the other forcing the keeper into a save following some good individual play.

East Stirling took the lead after a defensive mix up. A poor pass out of defence was intercepted and the striker waited for his moment before side footing home.

After the break, Kerr cleared off the line before Dundee got level. Lee Cameron took advantage of a mix up in the home side’s defence and found the net.

Dundee pushed on but couldn’t find a way through the East Stirling defence and in the final minute the conditions finally got the better of The Dee when a shot skidded off the surface and past John Bonnar.

Dundee – Bonnar, Sivewright, Mollison, Kerr, Black, McHardy (Milne), Colquhoun, Lamond (Skelly), Duggan, Carberry, Cameron.

Gavin Burns, who was in charge of the team last night, told us, “I was very pleased with the boys’ performance. We had some of our under 17s and two 15-year-olds in our team and they stood up well against a very experienced East Stirlingshire team.”

“We started in a lively fashion and created a couple of half chances, though it’s fair to say they enjoyed a 10-15 minute spell of domination.”

He continued, “The second half was very even and it was gutting to lose that goal right at the end.

However, there were lots of positives and we played the game in the right manner.”
