Young Dee narrowly lose out

Dundee narrowly lost out to Celtic in the SPFL Development League at Lennoxtown on Tuesday evening.

Torrential rain throughout the evening meant it was difficult conditions but the young Dundee side coped well with last season’s Development champions.

The home side started strongly with a couple of efforts on goal but it was Dundee who came closest in the opening period of the match when Mark Smith saw a headed effort cannon back off the bar.

The teams went in goalless at half time and early in the second half Smith again came close, this time taking the ball in well before turning and seeing his low effort saved.

Dundee thought they had taken the lead when Ian Smith found the net but the referee ruled the midfielder was offside.

Celtic did take the lead when Hill’s corner was flicked on by Crossan at the near post and Kelleher turned home.

The defeat came after back to back wins for Jimmy Boyle’s side and the team can take a lot of positives from the match despite losing out.
