Dundee Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of Drey Wright on a two-year deal.
Drey joins the Dee after he left St Johnstone at the end of the season.
30-year-old Drey is a right-sided midfielder but can play in a variety of positions including in defence. With over 300 competitive appearances to his name, Drey brings a wealth of experience with him to Dens Park.
Wright came through the youth system at Colchester United and made his professional debut at the age of 17 and would go on to make 149 appearances. After six years with Colchester Wright decided to move north of the border and joined St Johnstone in 2018. He would spend two seasons at McDiarmid Park before joining Hibs where he would make 50 appearances in all competitions. In 2022 Drey returned to St Johnstone where he spent three seasons and during his two spells in Perth, he made 135 appearances and scored 10 goals in all competitions.
Speaking after joining The Dee, Drey said, “It feels really good. As soon as I knew of the interest I was keen on the move and I spoke to a few people at the club and I’m really happy to get it over the line now. The move just felt right, I spoke to Gordon Strachan a few times and I felt it was a good fit with me for this time and I’m excited about the direction the club is going.
My message to the Dundee supporters would be just to back us and for me personally to show me some faith at the start and I can repay that. The game is made a lot easier if your fans are onside. I’ve noticed that strong support playing at Dens over the years, it’s hard for the opposition when the Dundee fans are right behind the team, so I would just ask the fans to back us as much as you can.”
Welcome to The Dee Drey!
