Wighton signs new deal

Dundee Football Club are delighted to announce that Craig Wighton has signed a new contract that will secured his future at the club until at least the summer of 2017.

Last season Craig became the club’s youngster ever goal scorer when he netted against Raith Rovers in the SPFL Championship and at the age of 17 he scored his first SPFL Premiership goal this afternoon against Partick Thistle.

At the age of 16, Craig broke into the first team during the Championship winning season last year after some very impressive displays for the Dundee reserve side. He played a total of 14 times, scoring twice for the first team.

His form had already seen him involved with the Scotland under 17 team and he was called up for the UEFA under 17s European Championships in Malta during the summer. Craig helped the young Scots progress as far as the Semi Finals.

Managing Director John Nelms stated – “We are pleased that Craig has pledged his future to Dundee FC. He is an exceptional young talent with match maturity beyond his years. We have agreed with Craig and his family the long term plan for his development which will give Craig the best opportunity to have a long and prosperous career at the highest level in football. Craig is a credit to the club and is a beacon that all of our Academy players should strive to follow.”

Manager Paul Hartley told us “I’m delighted to tie him up for the next 3 years. We think he’s the future of the club, we can only see him improving and getting better.

“For somebody at 17, he’s got the world at his feet and he can become a top player.”
