Dundee Football Club are thrilled to announce the signing of striker Joe Westley on a three-year deal from Burnley after both clubs agreed terms. The transfer is subject to international clearance.
The 20-year-old joins the Dee after spending the second part of last season on loan at Swindon Town, where he played 17 times and scored 3 goals in League Two. There was much interest from a number of English teams in Westley, but he has opted to move north of the border and sign for Dundee.
Westley has come through the youth academy at Burnley and signed his first professional contract in January 2023, and played for the Under 18’s and 21’s. His first loan move was to AFC Fylde in the National League in January 2024, where he played 13 times, scoring 3 times. He then had a short loan spell at Rochdale before his move to Swindon.
Speaking after joining Dundee, Joe said, “I’m buzzing to be here and I can’t wait to get going. It’s a really exciting opportunity for me to come to Scotland and challenge myself in a different environment. David Longwell spoke to my agent about the opportunity of me coming up here, and the way he sold the club to me and what the project was, I was really excited by it, and it was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down.
“In England, I’ve played in the National League and League Two. I could have gone back to Swindon, and I loved my time there, but this felt like the right move for me to progress my career.
“Michael Mellon was one of my best mates at Burnley, and I spoke to him yesterday and he spoke about how much he loved his time at Dundee, says it was a great club with great fans and that I should definitely take this opportunity.”
Joe will wear the number 19 for Dundee.
Welcome to The Dee Joe!
