Dundee Under 18’s booked their place in the Scottish Youth Cup final after defeating St Mirren 0-2 at the SMiSA Stadium on Monday night.
Dundee had reached the semi-final after previously defeating Penicuik, Fraserburgh, Ayr and Banks O’Dee.
They travelled to Paisley to face a strong St Mirren side with a large crowd of 1,400 in attendance. Right from the start of the match Dundee were on the front foot creating several chances.
Hunter and Leiper both had good chances in the first half hour. Shortly after 35 minutes the deadlock was broken when Crombie played a fantastic ball to the back post which was met by Hunter to open the scoring. The teams went into the break with the Dees leading 0-1.
St Mirren made changes at half-time but Dundee started the second half as they had played the first, in control of the match. Hunter had a chance to make it two just minutes into the second half, Scott picked him out but he was not able to fully connect with the ball and the shot went wide of the post.
Howett then came very close striking a powerful shot which the keeper pushed out for a corner. But just a minute later Hunter did get his second goal of the game, the ball was played to him on the outside of the box and he powerfully struck the ball past the keeper into the back of the net.
After the second goal the game became more open as St Mirren looked to get themselves back into the match. It was end to end in the last 15 minutes with both teams having chances. This was St Mirren’s most dangerous spell of the match but the young Dundee defence stood strong and managed the match out.
The match finished 0-2 to the Dees which sees them advance to the final at Hampden where they will take on Kilmarnock Under 18’s.
The date for the Scottish Youth Cup Final will be announced in due course.
