St Johnstone preview

Dundee take on St Johnstone at Dens on Saturday keen to extend a winning run which has seen the Dark Blues come out on top in wins over Motherwell, Hamilton Accies and Kilmarnock, while the Perth Saints themselves got back to winning ways with victory over Motherwell at McDiarmid Park last Friday.

This is the second fixture between the two sides this season with Thomas Konrad’s headed goal separating the sides in Perth on September 13th in a game which Dundee dominated, Saints had, though, been weakened in the build up to that match by injuries to key men, defender Tam Scobbie and striker Steven MacLean.

MacLean played a big part when St Johnstone last visited Dens in February 2013, opening the scoring for the visitors before John Baird tapped in a Lewis Toshney headed flick from a Ryan Conroy corner to level before the break.

That was John Brown’s first game in charge of the Dark Blues and it looked like he would start with a defeat after Declan Gallagher was sent off for pulling for a last man challenge of MacLean and, former Dee, Dave Mackay fied home the resultant free kick.

Dundee weren’t to be denied though and substitute Mark Stewart ghosted in behind the Saints defence to fire home a late equaliser.

Team news

Luka Tankulic could be back in the squad after being out for over a month with a foot knock, and it’s unlikely that there will be returns to the matchday pool for Simon Ferry, who has missed out in recent weeks with bronchitis and Craig Wighton who was sidelined last week after picking up a knock while on Scotland under 18 duty in the Czech Republic.
