Simon back at Dundee

New boy Simon Ferry was at Dens for the first time as a Dundee first team player, but when he makes his debut it won’t be the first time he’s worn the Dark Blue for the club as he told us today “Delighted to be here, I started off at ten years old at Dundee, I used to train two nights a week, so coming back now when I’m twenty six means a lot.

“I’ve always had a bit of affection of the club after this being the first club I was at. I played with lads like Scott Robertson and Bobby Linn, they were in my team, there’s quite a few of the boys I played with at ten still playing football. Kenny Cameron and Stevie Campbell brought me here and I was here a couple of years before I went to Celtic.”

“It’s a bit of a homecoming, my grandad was a big Dundee fan, he died a couple of months ago, but me joining Dundee now would have meant a lot to him, and it will to my gran who’s still alive.”

The quality of some of the signings the manager has made this summer played a part in Simon coming to Dens “I think Paul Hartley has done and will do really well here, the players he’s brought in this summer are impressive and it’s looking good. Living in England I’ve not had the chance to see Dundee at all recently but some of my mates come to the games have kept me up to date.”

“I’m moving back to the city too, and I can’t wait, I’ve been away since I was about 16 – ten years later I’m back.

With Simon having played his first team football south of the border we asked him to describe himself as a player “I like to get about the pitch, I’m a box to box midfielder, I try to keep it simple and keep the ball when I’ve got it – and I’ll work really hard for the team as well as trying to get into the box and score the odd goal.”

The midfielder has a bit of reputation as something of a character, when Swindon won promotion he celebrated in his underpants “It was a bit cold that day as you could probably see” he told us, but there will be no repeat should Dundee have reason to celebrate at end of the season “No, my mum and dad would be here so I’ll have to keep my clothes on” he laughed.
