SFA Report – Transition from Academy to First Team
Earlier this week, the Scottish Football Association published an extensive report that prioritises player development and progression. It focuses specifically on the issues facing players in their transition from academy to senior football.
One of the areas the report looked into was the number of players under 21 playing for Scottish Premiership clubs in the 23/24 season. Of the 12 Premiership clubs, Dundee FC was top with the number of minutes played by players under 21 and was the only Scottish club that achieved more than 3,000 minutes, reaching 3,538 minutes last season.
This illustrates the fantastic work that the Dundee Academy is doing with producing young players. It also highlights the club’s desire to develop young players and give them the opportunity of first-team football.
Last season the club had seven players that were called up by their country at Under 21 level. Dundee also had six players 21 and under feature in the first league match of this season against Dundee United.
