Ron Selway

Ron Selway

Everyone at Dundee Football Club was saddened to learn of the passing of former defender Ron Selway.

Ron was at Dens Park for six seasons, having joined The Dark Blues from Preston North End in August 1966.

He made his debut in a League Cup sectional tie derby at Tannadice and despite suffering defeat was able to get revenge a month later with a 4-1 win over Dundee United at the same venue.

The following season Ron was part of the team that reached the semi-final of the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup (now the Europa League) and having featured in the first round against DWS Amsterdam, also played in the semi-final second leg against Leeds United at Elland Road.

Ron played in Europe again three years later when he faced AB Copenhagen and Cologne in the away legs in the UEFA Cup.

In his time at Dens, Ron played in three semi-finals and four quarter-finalĀ ties, including a 4-0 League CupĀ win over East Fife en route to the final in 1967.

A tireless, hard working full back, Ron made 81 appearances for The Dee before leaving in the summer of 1972 to join Raith Rovers after a spell out of the team.

The thoughts of everyone at Dundee Football Club are with Ron’s friends and family at this sad time.
