Dundee’s Reserve League campaign got underway on Tuesday afternoon but it was a defeat at Whitton Park as Kilmarnock ran out 4-0 winners.
The scoreline doesn’t tell the full story of a match that was evenly balanced until the Rugby Park side took the lead with less than half an hour remaining but their clinical finishing in the final period saw them hit the net four times.
Cillian Sheridan started the match to give him his first action in just under a year following a long injury rehab. There was also starts for Adam Legzdins, Niall McGinn, Finlay Robertson and Max Anderson.
Dundee has the better chances of the opening period with Sheridan and Luke Strachan both being denied after finding space in the box.
Innes Cameron flashed a header just wide of the far post in Killie best chance of the half.
During the second period, Cameron did find the net just after the hour mark, His shot from the edge of the box found the bottom corner to give his side the lead.
They didn’t waste any time doubling their lead and two minutes later substitute Bobby Wales turned in from close range.
The goals kept coming for Killie and ten minutes later Wales was on the scoresheet again. This time he connected perfectly with a cross from the right to turn home.
Deji Sotona wrapped up the scoring when he was played through on goal with five minutes remaining and waited for his moment before slotting home.
