Dundee opened their SPFL Under 19 League season with a fine win over Dumbarton at Whitton Park on Sunday.
Ex-Dens Park loan player Colin Nish was in charge of the young Sons’ outfit for the first time.
The Dark Blues started brightly and Gary Duggan had the first chance but unfortunately fired over from a good position.
Dumbarton keeper Josh Lumsden looked a bit edgy early on and was relieved when Thomas Carberry flicked the ball over him and into the net, only for the ref to disallow the goal for offside.
Carberry had another chance to open the scoring but this time Lumsden did well to dive to his left and turn the ball round the post for a corner.
Calum Brodie in the Dundee goal got his first taste of action in the 23rd minute when he saved well from Dumbarton’s No. 8 Cook.
Carberry played his part in the opening goal after 28 minutes when he headed Scott Mollison’s cross into the path of Lee Cameron who stabbed the ball home from six yards.
A fine move involving Cammy Kerr, Duggan and Carberry resulted in the former Hamilton man shooting over the bar.
On 34 minutes Brodie made another good save, this time from McIntyre, but was beaten four minutes from half time when Madden netted from a Beaton cross.
The Dark Blues had a chance to go back in front two minutes later but Lee Cameron’s rebounded shot was driven wide by Duggan.

Carberry had an opportunity in the third minute after being fed by Kerr but the player slipped on the point of shooting and the chance was lost. However, a minute later they did go back in front. Cameron latched on to a Dale Davidson through ball to beat Lumsden with a fierce shot from the edge of the box.
The Sons’ keeper kept his side in the game with a good save from Cameron and, when the rebound fell to Ben Sivewright, the full back hit his effort wide.
Brodie earned himself a booking when he downed Beaton outside his box. Some of the visiting players felt the keeper should have had a red card but the winger was going away from the goal at the time. The subsequent free kick went narrowly wide.
A great tackle by Sivewright prevented a Sons’ equaliser and, in the closing minutes, the home side wrapped up the points. Kerr was brought down on the edge of the penalty area and Mollison curled a great left foot shot into the top corner of the net.
