Dundee head to Greenock Morton this week in the knowledge that three wins from their final games will see them crowned Champions of the SPFL Championship.
Both Dundee and Hamilton Accies had been neck and neck on points and goal difference going into last week’s matches but a 4-0 win for Paul Hartley’s men coupled with a 1-1 draw for Hamilton in Livingston has seen The Dee pull two points in front.
While those matches were going on, Morton were fighting for their lives at the other end of the table. Despite a recent upturn in results with back to back victories, a defeat to Alloa meant that it was confirmed The Cappielow side will be playing League One football next season.
The head to head record between the sides this season has seen Dundee come out on top all three times, collecting the maximum nine points from the Greenock side. Back in September, Morton took the lead at Dens but two early goals from Peter MacDonald followed by a Craig Beattie goal sealed the victory.
Beattie was on target again against ‘Ton in December, this time he opened the scoring at Cappielow before Declan Gallagher doubled Dundee’s lead just before half time. Dougie Imrie pulled one back but Dundee held out for the victory.
Then in early March, with Dundee now managed by Paul Hartley. Christian Nade opened the scoring and despite Dundee looking comfortable for the entire match – the points weren’t sealed until four minutes from time when MacDonald fired home.
Dundee welcome back Gary Irvine – he is available again for selection after he missed the win over Cowdenbeath through suspension.
