MONTI MAGIC FAILS TO CONJURE UP WIN

Even a double from Carlo Monti wasn’t enough to ensure a win for Dundee Reserves against their Queen’s Park counterparts at Glasgow’s Toryglen Sports Complex on Monday night.

The Dark Blues started brightly, controlling the tempo of the game and creating a number of chances and it was no surprise when Carlo Monti gave them the lead after 15 minutes. Good link-up play on the edge of the box put him through on goal and he sent his shot across the home keeper and into the net.

Ten minutes later the Dark Blues were awarded a free kick on the edge of the area and Monti put his side two ahead with a well-taken set-piece.

It all looked very comfortable at this stage but Dundee were shocked when the Strollers took advantage of some sloppy defending at a corner kick to pull a goal back five minutes before the interval.

The home side came out with all guns blazing in the second half looking for the equaliser. They appeared to have more energy about them and had upped the tempo. However, it was Dundee who came close to adding to their lead when Matty Allan somehow missed a clear cut chance at the back post.

Twenty minutes from time, breaking upfield after Dundee gave away possession, Queen’s Park grabbed the equaliser.

Chances were few and far between until the end of the game as it ended, from Dundee’s point of view, in a disappointing draw.
