Dundee Football Club are delighted to announce the loan signing of striker Michael Mellon, subject to international clearance.
The 20-year-old joins us on loan from Burnley FC till the end of the season. Michael played the first half of this season at English League Two side Morecambe FC where he scored 15 goals in 27 matches in all competitions.
Mellon came through the Academy at Manchester United before joining Burnley Under 16’s in 2019. In 2022 he signed his first professional contract at Burnley. For Burnley under 18’s he played 23 times scoring 12 times and then for Burnley under 21’s he scored 6 goals in 9 matches. He then joined Morecambe in January 2023 and during his year at The Shrimps, he played 35 times and scored 15 times in all competitions. Michael has also played three times for Scotland under 17’s and twice for Scotland under 21’s.
After joining the club Michael said, “I am really pleased to be here and to get the deal done. I am hoping to play my part and help the club in the second part of the season. I’m striker, I want to score goals and that’s what I want to do here. I can’t wait to play in the Scottish Premiership and get out on the park.”
On the news of Mellon joining Dundee, manager Tony Docherty said, “I am absolutely delighted to get this deal over the line and to bring Michael to Dundee Football Club. He is a player of such high calibre and a player that we’ve been tracking for a long time. We are indebted to Burnley Football Club and our partnership with them for helping us bring Michael in when he had so many suitors. We are now seeing the fruits of the partnership with Burnley, as we now have three talented young players from them that I believe will help us this season. When you look at his all-round play, he’s strong, he’s quick, he’s got great technical ability and his link-up play is very good. But his biggest quality is his knack of scoring goals, he has scored 15 goals in all competitions at Morecambe this season which is very impressive. So he is a brilliant addition to what is already a very talented squad here and he is another one that we want to nurture, develop and get the best out of.”
