Manager Paul Hartley has a number of injury concerns ahead of this weekend’s match against league leaders Aberdeen. On top of that, Dundee will also be without the suspended Paul McGowan.
The manager said of the injuries, “Letheren is out, he’s not joined back in. I think he’ll do some handling on Friday but in terms of kicking no. He’s not been involved at all this week.”
Going onto list the other players who are doubt, “Gary Irvine – ribs, James McPake – ribs, Kevin McBride – thigh, Simon Ferry – ankle, McAlister groin and David Clarkson – ankle. McGowan will also miss out through suspension.”
“Clarkson is touch and go, he rolled his ankle in training on Monday and hasn’t trained since.”
With so many players out, asked if he would consider bringing Craig Wighton back early from his loan spell at Brechin City, the boss said, “His last game is on Saturday and after that we will look at it, even if we send him out again he’ll have a recall on him.”
With the January window open, Paul is still keen to bring new players in, “We’ll trying to get a couple in also just to bolster the numbers. I think we’re at 18 players just now.”
Confirming he feels the defence is well covered, he would be looking to add attacking options, we went onto say, “Midfield, attacking, probably another striker to bring in.”
“If Jazza (James McPake) comes back next week, we’ll have four centre halfs there, makes it easier with cover.”
The trip to Aberdeen will see Dundee come up against an Aberdeen side who are flying and currently four points clear at the top of the table, this comes as no surprise to Paul, he said, “I think in terms of how they play, defensively and attacking side of the game, just overall as a whole unit, they are the best team we have face this season.”
“They defend well don’t lose any goals and a real attacking threat with pace and movement.”
