Everyone at Dundee Football Club were ecstatic to learn this week that Kyle Letheren has been called up for the Wales national squad for the European Championship qualifying clash with Andorra on September 9.
Kyle was in superb form last season racking up 20 clean sheets to help Dundee to the Championship title. He has continued that form into the new season with three cleans in five appearances so far.
We spoke to Kyle after he heard of his call up and he told us the weekend couldn’t have gone much better for him. He told Dundee FC Online, “I was up in Loch Lomond about to propose to my girlfriend and I got an email from the Welsh F.A. telling me I was in the squad.”
“I’ve had a good start to the season and this is an added bonus. It’s a dream come true. It’s what I’ve lived for and what you dream of as a young boy. I never thought it would come true.”
Kyle has been involved with the international set up before at under 21 level. He said, “I’ve been in the under 21s before but I only played 12 minutes, away to Cyprus.”
Going on to say he’s still coming to terms with his call up to the full squad, “It still hasn’t sunk in yet. Don’t think it will sink in until I’m out on the training pitch with the players.”
Manager Paul Hartley told us, “Everybody at the club is delighted for Kyle. It’s shows his form since start of this season and last. I’m sure he will do well.”
