Jordan McGhee Departs

With the 2024/25 season now concluded, Dundee Football Club would like to place on record its thanks to Jordan McGhee for his fantastic effort and service to the club as he exercises his right to move on under freedom of contract.

Speaking on his time at the club Jordan said, “All good things must come to an end.

I feel the time has come to move on and face a fresh challenge in my career.

It’s been a roller coaster since I joined almost six years ago and what a journey it’s been together.

Thank you to all my teammates over the years, managers the amazing staff behind the scenes and the fans for your continued support through the highs and lows, we’ve shared some amazing memories together ones that I’ll never forget.”

Jordan joined Dundee in the summer of 2019 from Falkirk after The Bairns were relegated to League One and made his debut on the same day as Lyall Cameron when he faced Raith Rovers in Kirkcaldy in a Betfred Cup group match.

Jordan made an immediate impact at Dens and scored his first goals for the club in September against Alloa and Queen of the South in the SPFL Championship.

Unfortunately, the season was curtailed due to the COVID-19 pandemic but the players still recognised Jordan’s contribution to the promotion push when they named him as the Dundee FC Player’s Player of the Season for 2019/20.

In the summer of 2020, Jordan was named as club captain but as The Dee pushed his former club Hearts for the title, he suffered a torn pectoral muscle.

Thankfully Jordan recovered quicker than expected and made his comeback in a 0-0 draw with Dunfermline in April before becoming a big part of the team in the run-in. With the Dark Blues finishing second, they faced Raith Rovers in the Premiership play-off semi-final and Jordan was the hero with a brace at Starks Park in a 3-0 first-leg win.

In the final against Kilmarnock Jordan opened the scoring in the sixth minute in the first leg at Dens as The Dee took a 2-1 lead to Ayrshire. With fans allowed back into the grounds for the first time since lockdown, Dundee went on to also win the 2nd leg 2-1 to record a 4-2 aggregate win on an unforgettable night and a return to the Premiership for Jordan and The Dee.

Back in the top flight, Jordan made 41 appearances, scoring once but the Dark Blues unfortunately slipped back down to the Championship.

Thankfully it was a short-lived visit to the second tier however as Dundee bounced straight back as champions, beating 2nd placed Queens Park 5-3 on an exhilarating final day. Jordan was again a key man playing 36 times in both midfield and defence, scoring vital goals against Raith, Hamilton and Partick.

The return to the Premiership saw Jordan make 37 appearances as The Dee made the top six and scored memorable goals against Rangers and twice against Hearts, one of which at Tynecastle was a goal of the season contender.

A year later however Jordan did win the Dundee FC Goal of the Season when he scored a similar strike to his Tynecastle goal in an unforgettable 4-2 win against Dundee United at Tannadice in March; a game in which he scored twice to eternally endear himself to the Dark Blue support.

Sitting on 197 appearances going into the split, Jordan was unable to add to his tally due to injury, and he leaves the club just shy of the double century of appearances and 21 goals; many of which were not just memorable but also crucial.

Jordan leaves Dens Park after six eventful years in a dark blue and he does so with our best wishes and a glut of great memories.
