Last Meeting

Dundee thrilled the fans by battling their way back from 2-0 down to beat Hearts 3-2 at Dens Park two days before Christmas. Hearts took an early lead through a Jamie Walker penalty. When Callum Paterson added a second for the Jam Tarts at the start of the second half the Dee had a mountain to climb. A Darren O’Dea goal started the fightback then Paul McGowan came off the bench to equalise. Three minutes into injury time Marcus Haber headed the winner, sending the delighted fans home with broad grins on their faces.

Heart of Midlothian’s Season So Far

Hearts’ season started in June when they faced FC Infonet of Estonia which they won 6-3 on aggregate but they disappointingly exited the competition in the next round when Birkirkara won 2-1 at Tynecastle after a 0-0 draw in the first leg in Malta.

Being in Europe meant a bye into the knock out stages of the League Cup but lasted just one round when they lost 3-2 to St Johnstone in the last 16.

Hearts had a tough start to the league campaign, losing to Celtic at home on the opening weekend before drawing 0-0 with Aberdeen but then started to hit their stride by winning their next three.

St Johnstone then proved to be a bit of a bogey team, beating Hearts again, this time in the Premiership but it was their only defeat in 14 games. This was run was enough to see them comfortably in third, the highlight being a 2-0 win over Rangers at Tynecastle but just two days manager Robbie Nielsen left to take over at MK Dons.

Former Dundee United youth coach Ian Cathro took over the hot seat and drew 2-2 with Ross County in his first game before Rangers got revenge with a 2-0 win in his second. This was followed by a draw with Partick and a dramatic last gasp defeat at Dens and after a 4-0 win over Kilmarnock, lost 1-0 to Aberdeen before the winter break.

The Scottish Cup was a disappointment, losing 3-1 in a replay with rivals Hibernian at Easter Road and in the league since New Year have been somewhat inconsistent losing 4-0 to Celtic in one game before beating Rangers 4-1 in the next. However defeats to Partick, Ross County, Aberdeen, Celtic and most recently to St Johnstone have seen them slip to 5th and they will be looking to return to winning ways against Dundee.
