The young Dark Blues dominated the first half against visitors Inverness Caley Thistle at Gayfield but couldn’t find the way to goal. The nearest they came was when Ryan Gemmell laid the ball back to Lee Cameron whose tame shot failed to trouble keeper David Hebon.

Dundee’s back line of Greg Warwick, Ben Priest, Kerr Waddell and Liam Gibb snuffed out the visitors’ attacks and keeper Calum Brodie was a virtual spectator.

A Josh Skelly free kick right on half time brought out a good diving save from Hebon.

However, the home side were shocked five minutes after the break when Caley Thistle took the lead. A good run down the right by Jamie Wilson saw his cross tapped into the net from close range by Kane Hull.

Five minutes later, Dundee were level, Cameron racing on to a superb through ball from Waddell to slot the ball past the visiting keeper.

Max Avolio then sent in a terrific cross which was just missed by the head of the inrushing Skelly, but, on 68 minutes the Dark Blues went ahead.

Gemmell and Warwick combined to set up Matty Allan and, when his high ball was dropped by Hebon, Calvin Colquhoun nipped in to head home.
Three minutes later, though, the visitors were level, Liam Polworth sliding an inch perfect pass through for Ally Sutherland to shoot past Brodie.

Manager Eddie Johnson introduced Ryan Shaw for Colquhoun as Dundee looked for the winner. Gemmell nodded the ball on for Cameron but his shot went wide of the target.

There was controversy in the final five minutes with both sides scoring from disputed penalties.

It looked like the Highlanders had clinched victory when Sutherland went down easily in the box and Polworth stepped up to send Brodie the wrong way from the spot, but in the dying seconds, Skelly was pushed to the ground and a penalty awarded to the Dark Blues.

Skelly stepped up to take the pressure kick and, though Hebon went the right way, he couldn’t get to Skelly’s well placed shot.
