DYNAMIC DEE BLITZ BAIRNS

DYNAMIC DEE BLITZ BAIRNS

A first half blitz by Dundee set them up for a comfortable victory against Falkirk at the Falkirk Stadium.

Following on from their victory over Hibs this was another fine win for the Dark Blues which saw them jump up to mid-table.

The Bairns had the first chance of the game after only two minutes with a free kick on the edge of the Dundee box but Ryan Blair sent his effort well over the bar.

They were to pay for not taking advantage on 10 minutes when Kyle Clark cut inside and passed to Sam DRYDEN who found the net from an acute angle.

Dundee threatened again and a fine move involving Jesse Curran and Craig Wighton ended with the young striker’s shot being hacked clear by desperate Falkirk defending.

However, the young Dark Blues went further ahead on the half hour mark when WIGHTON beat former Dundee United man David McCracken in the box and scored.

In the Bairns’ only real attack of note, Kyle Gourlay in the Dundee goal did well to turn a Kevin O’Hara shot round the post for a corner.

Two minutes from the break the Dens men scored again. Falkirk keeper Graham Bowman did well to save from Wighton, then Cammy Kerr, but could do nothing to prevent WIGHTON netting from the third rebound.

Three ahead at half time it looked all over but the Bairns showed more fight at the beginning of the second half and pressed the Dees defence without really looking like getting a goal back.

A shot by O’Hara was deflected by Kerr safely into the arms of Gourlay as the efforts of his back four prevented any serious chances being created by the home side.

At the other end a free kick on the edge of the Falkirk box saw Kerr Waddell try his luck, but the defender’s shot was too high.

A terrific move involving Calvin Colquhoun, Wighton and Kerr almost ended with a fourth goal but home keeper Graham Bowman tipped Kerr’s shot round the post.

Dundee made a double substitution, bringing on Liam Gibb and John Black for Kerr and Wighton on 73 minutes and, two minutes later, they scored again.

DRYDEN, who had moved from right to left back, worked a fine passing move down the left with Clark and, from just inside the Falkirk box, sent a low drive into the corner of Bowman’s net.

Sean Gallacher then came on for Clark and Dryden moved into midfield from where he almost grabbed his hat-trick with a shot that went just over the bar.

In the final minute Curran hit the post for Dundee.
